Who We Are

When I initially pursued my undergraduate degree in astrobiology, the mysteries of the universe fascinated me beyond measure. However, as I worked and spent time with dogs as a veterinary assistant, then shelter volunteer, I found out how much I loved observing their personalities, behaviors, idiosyncrasies, and understanding how they communicate.

I was immediately drawn to the immense capacity for emotional connection, uncanny ability to communicate without words, and unwavering loyalty to their human counterparts that the dogs exhibited.

Guided by this newfound passion, I embarked on a journey to obtain a Master's in Science in Canine Behavior. This program allowed me to delve into the intricacies and complexities of canine behavior, peeling back the layers to uncover the underlying motivations and intricacies that shaped their actions.

Once I got my pit bull, Obi-wan, it solidified for me. I had to work with dogs. Obi came to me terrified of loud noises, unable to be off the leash without bolting, and constantly in a fight with another dog if at a park. After working with him, painstakingly, through blood, sweat, and tears, he became what can only be described as a “once in a lifetime dog.” Obi walks in a heel, off leash, anywhere from hiking to city streets. He can break chase or play at the sound of my voice, and he is gentle and playful with other dogs. We added a second dog when Obi was four, in the form of a sister, Willow. Willow, rambunctious, stubborn, and terrified of the world as a puppy, can now break a hunting run on command, walk off leash in a heel, and is completely bark trained. Giving my dogs structure, allowed them to have freedom. By learning from my own pack, I’ve realized that when a dog knows what is expected of them, how to behave in certain situations, and what to do if they are stressed, they are able to function freely in the world. The dog can exist without worrying about fearful or stressful situations. Removing the “should I? should I not?” thought process from the dog, allows the dog to simply be. Everything withstanding, above all, you need to trust him, and he you.

Force-Free Training: Enhancing Canine Behavior with Compassionate Methods
As a dedicated canine behaviorist, I am devoted to cultivating harmony between dogs and their human companions, while ensuring their well-being through force-free training. With empathy and respect, my methodology centers on understanding and modifying canine behavior without the use of aversive techniques that diminish trust and the development of a strong bond.
At the core of my approach lies the belief that positive reinforcement yields lasting and transformative results. By utilizing rewards, such as treats, praise, and play, a nurturing environment is created, encouraging success.
Through comprehensive assessments, each dog's unique temperament, history, and specific behavioral challenges are analyzed.
Collaboration with human guardians is another key factor in my force-free methodology. By fostering open lines of communication, I empower dog owners to actively participate in their pet's learning process, equipping them with the tools to reinforce positive behaviors outside of formal training sessions. After all, it take’s two to trust.
Whether addressing issues like leash pulling, separation anxiety, or excessive barking, my proven force-free methods ensure long-lasting behavior modifications that enhance the overall well-being of both dogs and their families. By focusing on positive reinforcement, choice-based interactions, and rewards, I pave the way for dogs to develop self-control, emotional balance, and a genuine joy for learning.
